Abstract:

Most of Afsar Ahmed's writings are based on the Muslim community of Bengal. The author himself is a member of this community. Therefore, the customs and principles of the society and the unknown aspects have become important subjects of his writing. The practice of divorce is also a custom of that society. 'Bibir Mittha Talaque O Talaquer Bibi Ebong Halud Pakhir Kissa' is the first novel of Afsar Ahmed's Kissa series. The novel has attracted a lot of attention since its publication (1995). Perhaps, titling it 'Talaque' is one of the reasons for this curiosity. 'Talaque' means abandonment. This is a marriage-divorce ritual in Islam. Although there are many explanations and descriptions in Islam about its types, there are several controversies over this practice. Everyone is bound to accept this separation. As a result, in majority of the cases, the women of this community have to undergo acute misery. Afsar Ahmed has brought up the issue of talaque in several of his novels. In his plots, one can find the deepest depictions of the adversity carried by the practice of religious reform in the lives of men and women of the Muslim community.
