Abstract:

Abhijit Sen is an eminent literary writer whose literature is the main voice of struggles to protect the lives of the poor and their survival. In the real life experience Abhijit Sen mapped both the tyranny and oppression of wealthy people on the poor and the lifestyle of farmers, their culture and struggle for existence find expression in his novels. In the period depicted government and non-government organisations are shown as offering pseudophilanthropy to the people. In many of his novels Abhijit Sen skilfully depicts the sustainability of the struggles of the 'Rajbangshi' community of the Malda and Murshidabad. The main objective of his works is to show the brutal situation that resulted after the Partition of India leading to immense suffering of homeless people or refugees. Sen portrays the drama of their adaptation to the new situation and getting united in groups for the sake of survival in such works as Megher Nodi, Holud Ronger Surya, and Shirin O Tar Parijon. In Megher Nodi Abhijit Sen shows exploitation of people by the people in the life-story of a tribal leader. The Tribe leader who is an educated, hard working man loses his own ideals of social reforms. In the context of extreme economic crisis, droughts, and irrepressible sexual appetite an idealist philanthropic man turns into a wizard. He finds himself accused of being rape victim. A sudden incident in the life of Mahim, who takes the responsibility of defending the people as a group leader shatters his dream of a glorious life. Abhijit Sen's novel Megher Nodi demonstrates how a sudden incident may destroy a person's moral sense and bring disaster to the group.
